GENERAL TAO MEAL BOWL

Ingredients

    Sauce

    • 180 ml (3/4 cup) applesauce
    • 60 ml (1/4 cup) reduced sodium chicken broth
    • 10 ml (2 tsp) reduced soy sauce in sodium
    • 15 ml (1 tbsp.) sweet chili sauce

    Chicken toppings

    • 5 ml (1 tsp.) sesame oil
    • 1 lbs (454 g) chopped chicken
    • 1 onion diced
    • 30 ml (2 tbsp) grated fresh ginger
    • 1 clove garlic chopped
    • 1 bell pepper cut diced
    • 125 ml (1/2 cup) chopped pineapple, canned, drained
    • 2 chopped green onions

    Rice:

    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • 375 ml (1 ½ cups) cooked white or brown rice


    Steps

    1 - In a bowl, mix all the sauce ingredients. Set aside.


    2 - In a non-stick pan, heat the sesame oil.


    3 - Add the ground chicken and cook for 3 to 4 minutes. Break up the meat while cooking and season with pepper to taste.


    4 - Add the onion, grated ginger and chopped garlic. Add the red pepper. Cook for 1 minute. Deglaze with the reserved sauce mixture.


    5 - Add the pineapple pieces.


    6 - Add the green onions and mix.


    7 - Immediately serve the General Tao style ground chicken over hot cooked white rice.
